Several players around the NFL have faced penalties and lost playing time due to league rules surrounding sports betting. That includes Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams, who the NFL suspended for six games this year for violating league policies on gambling.

Schefter reports that a handful of players across the league will face season-long suspensions for alleged gambling. That includes Indianapolis Colts CB and return man, Isaiah Rodgers, who has been investigated by the league for violations of this policy. Season-long suspensions have typically been reserved for players who bet on NFL games, like Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley, who was officially reinstated this summer.

ESPN reported back in May that the NFL had been investigating players for a second wave of gambling-related suspensions. It’s unknown at this time if any players for the Kansas City Chiefs could be found culpable for alleged violations.

The NFL recently shared a set of guidelines for players to follow regarding sports betting in order to avoid violations of league policy and suspensions. The NFL has been a big proponent of legalized sports betting, partnering with several national sportsbooks back in 2021.
