300 arrested for gambling in raids at 48 places

Surat: The police cracked down on Janmashtami gambling, conducting raids at 48locations and apprehending over 300 individuals, including women, from various police station jurisdictions.
The highest number of gambling cases were registered by Varachha, Kapodra, and Sarthana police stations, each filing five FIRs. Three FIRs each were filed in Mahidharpura and Katargam, and two each in Puna, Utran, and Godadara police stations.
The Singanpore, Athwalines, Rander, and Udhna police have each registered one case.The police have confiscated over Rs eight lakhs in cash and other valuables from the gamblers.
Among those arrested were a female actor, a musician, diamond brokers, diamond traders, textile traders, builders, businessmen, and travel agents.
The most extensive raid occurred in the Rander area, where 16 people were caught gambling in a flat at Hetalnagar-1 apartment complex. Utran police conducted raids at two locations, nabbing 16 gamblers and seizing Rs. 1.80 lakh in cash.
The gamblers were found engaging in their illicit activities in a variety of locations, including terraces, balconies, shops, society open spaces, rooms, and even at crossroads.
