Three men, aged between 36 and 74, are being investigated by the police for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling activities.
The police said officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted enforcement operations against illegal gambling activities in the vicinity of Yishun Street 22 on Sunday (Aug 13).
A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly acting as a bookmaker and two men, aged 72 and 74, are assisting in investigations for allegedly placing bets with the bookmaker.
Cash of more than $630, one mobile phone and one tablet were seized.
Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone involved in unlawful betting operations may face a fine not exceeding $200,000 and up to five years in jail.
Under the same Act, anyone who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider may face a fine not exceeding $10,000 and/or up to six months in jail.
The police said they take a serious view against all forms of illegal betting activities. Members of the public are advised to steer clear of such activities.
They added: “Individuals found to be involved in such illicit activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
