Kolhapur: A 26-year-old man died after jumping from the second floor of a building in the Rajendra Nagar area of Kolhapur city on Sunday.
Sahil Michael Minekar-Rajput, the deceased, feared arrest by the cops who had arrived to raid the gambling den set up on the second floor of the house.
According to the police, a team on Sunday raided a gambling den situated on the the roof of the two-story house. Several tried to escape, including Sahil Minekar and his friend Dattatray Devkule. Both jumped from the roof.
Minekar’s head fell on a rock, and he received severe injuries.
He and Devkule were taken to Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Civil Hospital, where Minekar was declared dead. The incident happened at around 9.30 pm on Sunday.
The relatives of the detained have accused the cops of negligence while carrying out the raid. They had even denied performing Minekar’s last rites and demanded action against the cops involved in the raid. Following this, the senior cops met with the family members and assured them of an inquiry into the raid. The relatives then cremated the deceased on Monday.
