A 16-year-old was shot after an apparent robbery on Monday and two men were charged with operating a gambling house in Akron.
According to Akron police, around 7:15 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a shooting at the Royal Queens Party Center in the 800 block of Brown Street. The establishment is reportedly a gambling house and was on the police department’s radar as it’s also been the subject of concern for area residents, the police department said in a press release.
Officers found a 16-year-old male on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound when they arrived. The teen was transported to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious abdominal injuries. The teen’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Police said the teen suspect reportedly entered the establishment and brandished a handgun, according to a 22-year-old employee. According to the clerk, there was a struggle over the gun, and the teen suspect was shot during the incident.

Police said detectives processed the scene and collected numerous pieces of evidence, including shell casings, gambling machines, an undisclosed amount of cash and other related gambling equipment.
Right after that, a 34-year-old man who reportedly leases the building, and a 19-year-old man who is the manager of the gambling operation, arrived on the scene and were arrested, police said. Both men were charged with operating a gambling house on gambling-related charges. They were later transported and booked into the Summit County Jail.
The teen suspect faces pending charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to identify additional subjects present during the incident.
